Privacy Policy

1. Who this policy covers

This policy applies to the QuranicKids mobile application for Android (package com.azl.quranickid) and to this website. It is issued by QuranicKids (“we”, “us”).

The app is designed for children aged 4-14 and is intended to be set up and supervised by a parent or guardian. Where this policy refers to “you”, it means the parent or guardian who installs the app and creates the account.

2. What we collect

The app has two modes, and they collect different amounts of information.

Guest mode: nothing leaves the device

If you tap “continue as guest”, no account is created and no personal information is transmitted to us or to anyone else. Progress, the chosen language, the selected avatar and a nickname are stored only in the app’s local storage on your phone, and are deleted when the app is uninstalled.

With a parent account

Creating an account enables progress to be saved to the cloud so it survives a lost or replaced phone. The complete list of what is stored is below. There is nothing beyond this table.

3. What we never collect

• No advertising identifier (no Android Advertising ID), and no advertising at all.
• No analytics, attribution, crash-tracking or A/B-testing SDKs.
• No precise or approximate location.
• No contacts, photos, files, calendar or call/SMS data.
• No microphone or camera access. Pronunciation recording is not a feature of this version.
• No biometric data, no behavioural profiling, no cross-app or cross-site tracking.
• No payment details. The app is free and contains no purchases.
• No child email address, phone number, home address, school name or date of birth.

4. Children’s privacy

QuranicKids is built for children and participates in Google Play’s Families programme. We follow the requirements of the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the UK Age Appropriate Design Code, and Article 8 of the UK and EU GDPR.

• A parent creates the account. Account creation requires an email address and password, which acts as the parental gate. Child profiles can only be added from inside a signed-in parent account or in guest mode on the device.
• We collect the minimum. A first name or nickname, an age and an emoji avatar are the only personal details attached to a child, and they exist purely so progress attaches to the right learner.
• Nothing about a child is used for advertising. We do not serve ads, do not use advertising identifiers, and do not disclose children’s information for any marketing purpose.
• No open interactions. There is no chat, no comments, no user-generated content, no photo upload and no link to social networks. The family leaderboard shows only the child profiles on your own account, never other families.
• External links are limited and adult-facing. The only outbound links are to this policy, the terms, and support email, and they sit in Parent Mode.

If you believe a child has provided us information without a parent’s involvement, email quranickids0@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.

5. How information is used

We use the information above only to:

• sign you in and keep you signed in;
• save and restore each child’s lesson progress, stars, XP and streak;
• decide which lesson unlocks next and when the certificate is earned;
• generate the parent report, the family board and the printable certificate;
• apply the parental controls you set, such as a daily time limit;
• respond to you when you contact support.

We do not use it to profile, target, score or advertise to anyone, and we do not make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects.

6. Legal bases (UK/EU GDPR)

• Contract: processing the account and progress data needed to provide the service you asked for.
• Consent: given by the parent or guardian when creating an account and adding a child profile. You may withdraw it at any time by deleting the account (see section 12).
• Legitimate interests: keeping the service secure and working, balanced against the rights of children, which we treat as the priority.

7. Sharing and third parties

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising or marketing. There are no advertising networks, data brokers or analytics vendors in the app.

One infrastructure provider processes data on our behalf:

Google acts as our data processor under its own terms and security standards. See Google’s privacy documentation for how it handles data on our behalf.

We may also disclose information if legally required to do so, or where necessary to protect the safety of a child or the integrity of the service. If ownership of the app ever changes, we will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different policy.

8. Device permissions

The Android app requests one permission:

No microphone, camera, location, contacts, storage or phone permissions are requested. Saving or sharing a certificate uses the system share sheet, which does not require broad storage access.

9. Storage, location and retention

• On the device: preferences, the daily streak and, in guest mode, all progress. Removed when the app is uninstalled.
• In the cloud: account and progress records held in Google Cloud Firestore. Data may be processed on Google servers outside your country, including outside the UK/EEA, under Google’s standard contractual clauses and equivalent safeguards.
• Retention: we keep account and progress data for as long as the account exists, because that is the point of it. A child’s progress should still be there next year. When you delete the account, the associated child profiles and progress records are deleted with it.

10. Security

Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Passwords are hashed and stored by Firebase Authentication and are never accessible to us. Database rules restrict every record so that an account can only read and write documents under its own account identifier so one family cannot reach another family’s data.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affects your information, we will notify affected users and the relevant regulator as required by law.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of personal information, to withdraw consent, and to receive a copy of your data in a portable format. Parents may exercise these rights on behalf of their children.

Much of this is available directly in the app: Parent Mode lets you edit your own profile, edit or delete any child profile, reset a learner’s progress, and delete the whole account. For anything else, email quranickids0@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.

If you are in the UK or EEA and are unhappy with our response, you may complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office).

12. Deleting your data

You can delete data at three levels:

• One child’s progress: open the child app, then Me → Reset Progress. This clears that learner’s lessons, stars, XP and streak and leaves other children untouched.
• One child profile: Parent Mode → Children → delete. This removes the profile and its progress records.
• The entire account: Parent Mode → Settings → Delete Account. This removes the sign-in credentials, the parent profile, every child profile and every progress record.

You can also request deletion by emailing quranickids0@gmail.com from the address on the account. Uninstalling the app removes everything stored on the device, but does not by itself delete a cloud account. Use one of the options above for that.

13. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of the page. Where a change materially affects how information about you or your child is handled, we will give notice in the app before the change takes effect, and where the law requires it we will ask for consent again.
